Gold mining in NC
#1
I don't have any personal experience in gold mining/panning/dredging, but to get this section of the forum started I will post a link to some information about gold mining in McDowell County, NC where I grew up.  Just a few miles down the road from my parents' home is Vein Mountain, where gold was mined "back in the day". There are still a couple of sites where you can pay to pan for gold, I just haven't tried it yet.

From what I hear the nox 800 is waterproof and has a gold setting. I believe it uses it's highest freq. but I could be wrong since I've never used one.

Pretty neat area you have there.   Should be plenty of areas to pan for free without paying somebody.  Just make sure you are not on a claim.  You can check at a few places....

LR2000 is another...but who knows with the shutdown and all that.

The Nox 800 in gold mode is good for gold prospecting.  I would get the his6 inch coil if possible.

This is a good channel to watch.  Dudes name is Bill Southern.  He has prospecting and all sort of other videos.  Very smart guy when it comes to Minelabs.

Watch out for those McDowells! They can be worse than the shiners...

Seriously though. I have been *prospecting* down near Charlotte when I was in the scouts. I found probably about $50 of flecks but didn't know better and sold them to the owner for $10. I had some good candy though! lol

I only started gold panning when I got into metal detecting, seems as though they go hand in hand. One of my family members bought me a "Ghost towns of Colorado" book and it has been more than interesting reading because the majority of the towns are old mining towns. So much history and interesting history at that. It has peaked my interest even more and I look forward to visiting these ghost towns/mining towns this summer.

Did some channel surfing a few days back, and noticed "Gold rush/white water" on Discovery channel. Maybe of interest to all.
